Measure each bed's length and width in feet and the soil depth you want in inches. For a new raised bed, aim for at least 10 to 12 inches of soil depth for most vegetables.
A cubic yard of soil is 27 cubic feet. A 1.5 cubic foot bag means about 18 bags per yard; a 2 cubic foot bag means about 13.5 bags per yard.
Most vegetables need 10 to 12 inches of soil. Root crops like carrots and potatoes prefer 12 inches or more.
